SO WEIRD! I swear it was down. I typed it in, didn't work. Went to google, clicked on the link, didn't work. Hmm.. Maybe it was just momentarily.
Talking about Spyder Robotics here..

Re: UTH Question
I use this for temps:

And I DO use a thermostat for my UTH. The original question was if it is okay to have the UTH on the same side as his hide? I don't believe I see any answer here.
My gf shuts off the heat when she leaves for work and when I get home the temp for his habitat is 75.5F. I thought the UTH would keep a steady temp in his habitat without worrying about the air temp in the room, but apparently I am wrong?
I am having so much trouble maintaining a temp. This is my second UTH I have bought because I thought the first one was broken because of its inability to heat the tank to desired temps, now this one is doing much the same.
Im frustrated

Let's try to unfrustrate you here. The UTH doesn't always keept he temps in the habitat up. Do you have a heat lamp over the unit? That's a good idea.. should keep up the temperature. Also, yes it is fine to keep the UTH under the hide. In fact, that's exactly how I try to do it.
What kind of thermostat are you using? If it's one you can trust and can keep a steady temp, then I say, put the hide right over the UTH,on top of the substrate. He'll probably slither around until he's up against the glass, which is fine, just keep the temps below 94 on the surface.
Also try insulating the outside of the enclosure with some cardboard or some black thick posterboard, like a 1/4" thick.

Re: UTH Question
75F is too cold for ball pythons. Also, if you put in a lamp chances are you will zap humidity. Poster board does not insulate well :)
I would get cork board or the pink rigid insulation and insulate the tank on the three sides and see how much this helps the situation.
If more heat is needed, perhaps a CHE would work as they don't zap as much humidity, especially when you seal most of the top of your tank.
Also, make certain that your substrate is not too thick and that the UTH is the appropriate size for your tank :)
Lastly, why shut off the heat????

In the house I imagine is what they mean by turning off the heat.. to save money.
