    um .. what?

Are you talking about having the right wireless frequency/standard?

Why would they need to buy anything but the router? are cables out of the question? I don't get this response, and I think you are wrong.

    DON'T BUY ANYTHING EXTRA!

Since you already have the PC, and you are replacing an existing router, you have all the stuff you need. just buy the new one, and replace. simple, easy, and cheap.

Thats the one not directly close to the others, then you have 4 or 5 that are close to each other on the other side of the back, just connect one cable to each computer's ethernet port and presto your done!

PS: Please send the 50 bucks they were going to charge you for that to the I need more morphs foundation at the link below:

    (JUST KIDDING!)

The router listed above is good and really easy to install.

    Have Fun!

forgot a step after you have it all hooked up unplug your cable modem for 10 seconds and then plug it back it to reconfigure it to the new hardware

If the laptop is wireless enabled you can usually see it says so either on the box itself or the user manual. If your unsure post the make and model of the PC I'll look it up for you. If it is wireless enabled it's a little bit trickier but nothing major to get that connected to your router's wireless signal (becareful don't buy any linksys you need one that states it's a wireless modem).

It's a desktop- will have to check make and model. It shouldn't be a problem if I want the computers in different areas of the house right? One is upstairs on the main floor and the other in the basement office. Arrg, I wish I was a little more tech savy :weirdface

If it's a desktop then going wireless is just silly. It will limit your connection speed, I'd rather wire even if its 50ft than go wireless on a desktop and have my connection speed limited. Unless it's a mobile unit going wireless for me it's just not worth it.
