They sure do in plenty of states. If you try to perform CPR, haven't been given training, are the only person around, and do it wrong, you're protected(at least in MN). There are other forms of negligence that good samaritan laws protect people for.

    Other interesting notes:

Now if you've been given CPR training and do it wrong, you are not protected. Also, if you're at a bar and someone begins choking, the only people who can give assistance are those who have not been given any training, or are completely 100% sober, because good samaritan laws protect the drunkard with no training, but those with training are not allowed to give assistance if they have had any kind of alcohol. If you are at the bar with a team of Paramedics, EMTs, surgeons, medical doctors, and nurses, and every single one has had at least one drink, NONE of them are allowed to give any kind of aid.

Because you're only protected by good samaritan laws if you don't know what you're doing.

Have you wondered, even for the barest hint of a slippery moment, just WHO made those laws.

I won't even ask if you've considered WHY those who made them would want those particular laws on the books.

Simple, it's to keep medical professionals from treating people while under the influance, and then using a law like the good samaritan law to get out from responsibilty. Unfortunately, this ALSO means that if you're choking, they are not supposed to help, even if they've just sipped a beer.
There usually IS a reason behind the laws, the issue arises when the law ALSO prevents common sense from taking effect. Let's face it, how many EMTs are going to sit there watching someone die from choking due to the possibilty of being sued? I know several EMTs, nurses, doctors, and former military medics. Not ONE would actually stand by in a actual emergency. Law or no law.
And anyone can sue anyone else for any reason, under US law. It's just whether they would have a booger's chance in heck at winning.

I know people do get hurt by people moving them after accidents.. but if the danged car is ON FIRE, please pull me out. Most folks would rather be paralyzed than dead.

The trick is, if you stop to help someone disappear quick. I've stopped to help people in serious accidents before and as soon as everyone is safe and help is on the way I split. The only time I've ever stuck around was a head on collision and we directed traffic. There is only a couple reasons to stick around. The person is bleeding to death and unconscious so you have to stop the bleeding. Or your doing cpr. Other than that do not stick around.
People suing you should not stop you from being a good Samaritan. Just be smart about it.
Man if it wasn't for spell check i would look like an idiot lol.

I will continue to help people in need regardless of what the consequences may be. I cannot and will not go on for the rest of my life being afraid of helping. I know that God is on my side, and that things will always work themselves out. I hope they can work this out. Think of it like this, would you not do the right thing and save an animal that is hurt and is in danger of dying for fear that the animal may bite? I know some would, but I know I would take the risk of getting bit to save another life wether it is a human or an animal.
