Good episode too
You don't feel bad for the rodents that are f/t? ;)
I do get what you're saying though - Adam said it best in one of his videos - he loves animals - he doesn't enjoy feeding off rodents, in fact it sucks, but his snakes have to eat, and that's just a part of keeping snakes.
I feed live - there are times, especially knowing there's a warm place for those who feed off dumbos (thanks for telling me that, Kara! :P) when I have a litter of dumbos to be fed off. One downfall of breeding dumbos, because they're so cute! LOL
Re: SnakeBytesTV-rodents and snakes
To be honest I am afraid of rats and mice so I have absolutely no problem feeding them to my boys and girls:cool:
Re: SnakeBytesTV-rodents and snakes
When I was a kid, every year my mom would buy a pig and we would raise him as a pet and come Christmas time, he would get traded off for another pig that will end up roasted for Christmas dinner. We couldn't bring ourselves to butcher the pet pig although we realize he would still end up getting butchered by somebody else. It's just the way we dealt with it.
I love my rodents! We got ASF rats a month ago and we ended up keeping some as pets. They are waaaayyy too cute. My husband does the ball python feeding and he would just sneak a rat out of the tub, otherwise the kids would tell him to go find his own rat. We spend money on these rats that it is probably cheaper to get two rats at a time from the pet store on feeding day... I mean, they have colorful chew toys and wheels and different kinds of hides and even a tiki hut... But, when it's time to feed, it is what it is and they serve a higher purpose. I'm sure if we ever get a pet that only eats ball pythons we will have to go through the same agony getting a ball python, keeping them for a little while and then feeding him off. Sigh.
What I really hate are all these youtube feeding videos that show the owner mocking the rodent or gleefully urging the rodent to his death and laughing and such. It is disrespectful, in my opinion. It got to a point when I would run a search on ball pythons and I would groan, "another amateur feeding video..." coz there's just that many of them. I mean, it is a beautiful thing to watch a snake in feeding action (just the show of power and agility is awesome to experience) but it is never cool to show disrespect to the prey. Just my 2 cents, of course.
