    I am going to start building tommorrow, and i think i am going to lower the height to 13 inches. but you think i can get all my temps right with just an 80 watt RHP, and nothing else. and i dont have to worry about my snake putting his snout up to the heater?

    I don't know where you live or what the temps are in the room where you keep your snake.

    And no, you don't need to worry about the snake's safety when using an RHP. You do need to have it controlled by a thermostat though ;)
