Why I can't stand the holiday season! I hate the holidays! Too many people worry more about who got the most, the best or most expensive! I give gifts to my children, usually cash to spend. But as far as celebrating, I see nothing worth celebrating! I go to the store to buy things I need just to have someone snap at me or run me down because I'm in their way!
I feel so bad for the boys family! Their lives are forever changed!:(

Anyone remember the reasons we have this holiday season? Apparently, many people do not. It's just the time of year when we push, shove, and trample (and now shoot eachother) to get a better deal on material items.

I would love to say I can't believe that happened, but it isn't even like it's the first time people have been trampled to death on black friday by people trying to get deals.

It's sick - especially when they were told that they had to leave because an employee was killed and they complained that they had been waiting in line.

That had to be a really horrible way to die, I feel terrible for his family.

"Angels we have heard on high,
Tell us to go out and BUY!
    "

"God rest ye merry merchants may ye make the yuletide pay"

    "Hark the Harold Tribune sings,
    advertising wondrous things.
    "

    That says it all. SIGH.

I get up early almost every year for the black friday sales but never have I seen anything like this in person. I've had a few people push past me or cut in line, but thats about it. I cant understand how some people get all psycho about a sale. Yes I go because I want to save a little extra but its not worth hurting anyone in the process!!!! And if I seen something like that going on, I'd either get myself out of there or try and help. (depending on the situation)

I really think if they are going to continue these sales, they need to be handled better, maybe have security guards w/ tazers there and have some kind of chains to keep people in a single line so its less likely that people would be able to bum rush the doors or trample people. there really should be a law against this kind of barbaric, selfish and psychotic behavior, with much harsher consequences.

its a terrible tragedy, an innocent person, an employee lost their life all because they were just doing their job and trying to earn an honest dollar. And to have it happen around the holidays is just beyond words. The holidays will never be the same for the family. My heart bleeds for them.

No sale is worth a life..

And this is the part of the holidays I hate. What ever happened to the holidays being about family and spending time with one another. I'm not religious but I still celebrate the Christmas season. I don't like the idea of going out and buying really expensive gifts. (And no one should have to die for you to get a good deal. And the fact that someone complained that they had been standing in line when they were told someone had died?!?!)

This year, we are putting up a tree, I'm giving money to my cousin so he can pay some of his credit card bill, money to my brother so he can buy a part for his car, a wok for my mom since her's broke, gift cards to B&N for my grandparents, money to my sister for clothes for school, and that's about it. Nothing expensive. Next year....I'm making handmade gifts!

well, black friday is really earning it's name this year!! Crowds of people with a single thought in mind disgust me because their mentality deteriorates to stupid and dangerous levels. I either shop before or after, and avoid black friday like the plague... cause it is!

To my BP family, please be safe and kind, remember the reason for the holidays.. to spend time with the ones you love. To share joy by sharing with others. May everyone have a safe and happy holiday season.

This made me really sad... and then mad!
I mean killing a ball python in the dryer (Herp broadcast post) gets me frustrated but it's nothing compared to THIS. Is this America nowadays?

I stay home on Black Friday. I've been doing this for 4 years. I make my gifts now. And I "christmas shop" all through-out the year. Like, the Toys R Us close to me closed last September (moved to a different location) and had a major sale. I got several toys for the nieces and nephews then. Or, I would be at the mall in the middle of June and some craft fair of some kind is going on and I would find these really unique stuff at reasonable prices that I know so-and-so would love... The adults get handmade gifts. And the really cool thing is, you can go to my friends and relatives houses and see my "handiwork" displayed in their homes. They treat it more special than the sale-item at wal-mart. So, this has been my gifts the past years:
1.) throw-pillows with iron-on picture in the middle. Basically, I took a cotton-blend white remnant, ironed on a picture of the family on it, then sewn it onto a handmade throw pillowcase, add lace for frill and stuff with pillow stuffing. I make a pair, wrap it, and voila. Great gift for mailing as well - very light. I saw the how-to-make-throw-pillows at HGTV.com
2.) hand-painted scented candles and breakfast trays. I saw this thing on TV - One-stroke painting by Donna Dewberry, so I got it Tivo'd and followed along painting candles and trays. All my family asked me to make them extra ones for the kids, so they can have something to put their popcorn and drinks when they have movie-night at home.
3.) hand-painted ceramics. There's this store close to me where you paint some ceramic stuff and they put it in the big oven and it comes out really pretty. They had a close-out sale on the ceramics so I made sushi plates, dog bowls, trivets. But except for the trivets, this was a bit expensive.
4.) This year, I embroidered towels. The thick towels were on sale at Big Lots last summer for 5 bucks each! So I borrowed my friend's embroidery machine and I've been embroidering monograms and designs on the towel to match the bathroom it is going to. I'm sure it's going to be a hit... again. :-)
