Considering a Red Tail

Here's my boa I got from Jimi as well. He's one of my favorite snakes to handle and just have. He's recently formulated a hissing habit, but he's all talk. :rolleyes:

So now a couple more questions on the BCIs just temperment wise. Are they typically more active than say a comparable sized ball? I'm not worried about a bitey snake, most of my little hatelings have had a go at me and a couple of the balls have even swung but I might be worried about a 10 foot bitey snake lol. Is that something most will just grow out of with handling?

I'm looking at getting a cage from RBI for my biggest corn, how long would a 2X3 cage hold a growing BCI? I'm sure I'd have to upgrade eventually but I don't want to plop down the money on a cage and then have it be useless in 3 months lol. I'm thinking of a the boa as somewhat of a display snake which right now I only have one 29g display tank that would most likely be far too small except for a baby. Thanks for all the advice everybody!

If size is an issue, check out the BCAs! Your feeding discipline needs to be right on the money. They are smaller than BCC or BCI and can look as good as a BCC if you choose carefully.

I'll be lucky if he reaches 5 feet. His mother topped out under 6 feet.

Cool! Size is not so much an issue, I actually would like a snake that gets a little bit bigger as a sort of step up from the ball pythons lol. I'd love to come by sometime and check him out though :) I've got a rough grasp on the basic boa types but BCA is? That is a beautiful little guy BTW :)

BCA = Boa Constrictor Amarali

Size was an issue with me (husband unwilling to help with handling)
but if it isn't, the diversity of the BCI morphs will surely satisfy every aesthetic taste.
BCCs tend to get quite large...bigger than BCI. I am a sucker for the high contrast, brick reds, and clean backgrounds of the BCC.

Boas are great....you're gonna really enjoy having one :gj:
my BP is still my first love, but the boa is great for handling.

A house is not a home with a boa. =)

And yeah, there are some seriously beautiful boas in this thread! :gj:

In my experience (limited) my boas have a range of personalities. The little hypo is by far the most laid back snake-- always a joy! The normal Columbian is also pretty laid back but I have to read her mood du jour!! The pastel is quite the challenge and the challenge began the minute she came out of the shipping bag!!! However, she has chilled out considerably over the months and is doing really well. You really need to just speak with the breeder and let him/her understand what you are looking for in a boa...

I have my girls in RBI 3x2x1 cages and heated with RHP's. Works very well. Even the wee little hypo went right into her cage and the size never fazed her. Now that 2 of the girls are 1.5 years, I am getting them AP 6x2x4 cages. These cages will be their forever homes.

My boas are way more outgoing than any of ball pythons. They live in the living room and watch the action! They are not timid, have awesome feeding responses, love to climb, and are interactive (when they choose!) I really just adore my boas :D

Yea, boas are a lot more outgoing than bps. One of my boas just sits there and watches me. Follows me around the room, lol. Makes me wonder what he does when I'm not at home.

i love mine as well.. some days she is nippy some days not... still havent been tagged though. but im thinking i may just stick my hand in there and get it over with so she can see i dont care
