Re: New Owner- Shed or bad stuff?
im confident that if you keep the temps right, the surface of the tank clean and soak with warm water and soap your snake will clear up nicely.it wont go away until the next shed so dont get frustrated.if you see it is getting worse then i would go to the vet.
also instead of misting the tank, try a humid hide.get a little sphagnum moss, mist it with water and put it in the snakes hide box.here in st.louis the winters get really dry and its impossible to keep the tanks at 50%.i have had no problems with this method and it is much easier than constantly misting the tank.
Re: New Owner- Shed or bad stuff?
thats good advice thanks! I'ma be making him 2 new hides tomorrow. Right now the one he has is just like a hollowed out half log... Ima make some nice rock lookin ones and give him one on each side and put the water in the middle... Maybe I will pick up some spraghum moss and glue it on the inside of the hot side hide...movin the water to the middle and also puttin somethin solid on top (instead of a towel) will both help with the humidity a lot...
Can I still handle him when he havin the belly rot or should I leave him alone?
Thanks!
Re: New Owner- Shed or bad stuff?
you dont want any glue.here is a link on how i make the humid hide,

as for handling him,i would hold off.
Re: New Owner- Shed or bad stuff?
Awesome guide man...
By using the moss in the hide should I be concerned with ambient humidity or just keep it around 50 and then during shed time do the whole humide hide stuff...
Guess I wont be handling george for a week or 2... O well
Thanks for Everything!

Re: New Owner- Shed or bad stuff?
one more question... When I soak him, do I put the Anti bact soap in the water and soak him or just wipe him down with some AB? dry him off and then a little bit of neosporin?
He hasnt shed sine I got him (about a month now) so I figured he is due to shed sometime fairly soon, could this be putting off his shed and once he gets better he will go into shed?
Something tells me it would be a good idea to have a bottle of purell next to the tank so that i know my hands are clean every time i go in there... Usually im pretty good about washing my hands but there have been a few times where I or someone else hasnt washed and look where i am now...
I am workin hard to take care of this guy... tomorrow im going to start making him 2 custom hides a la http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...568#post912568... gonna be a fun project for the girlfriend and I... That way he will have a total of 3 hides... I'm going to do basically a double decker so there will be 2 different warm hides and also one on the cool side... Question on positioning hides... is it ok for me to be able to see in them from outside the cage or does that defeat the purpose of a hide?
Thanks again and sorry for the long posts... Just want to get things right...

Re: New Owner- Shed or bad stuff?
You could off-set the entrance (like RBI does) and then have it facing the viewer while allowing for snake privacy :)
