I have a Helix and Herpstat. I like the Helix more, it has just worked better for me, but the Herpstat was way easier to set up and use.

We have a ranco, johnson control, and our new herpstat pro with the software. They all work fine. I do however like the johnson controls over the ranco for the price range. The johnson controls has the ability to replace the probe if it fails the ranco does not. The johnson controls also have a couple more features as far as programming goes. I haven't got my herpstat working totally with the software so im not sold on that yet.

I have a couple Rancos, they work fine and are easy to use. Some day though I would like to upgrade to a Herpstat.

I need to get one and I'm on a budget... Could somebody please explain some of the differences between them and maybe some of their features?

Night drop? is that just a temp drop at night? Do I need that?
Proportional vs on off... a prop functions like a dimmer? how do I know which i need?
setting up a stat... do i plug UTH and heat bulb into it or just one? im running a single 50g glass tank and with simply a heat light and a UTH My temp fluctuates from 88-94 and since I adopted this setup, the snake hasn't gone in his warm hide very much (so i'm guessing its too warm). I have been having humidity probs in the tank to so I have started misting and will set up a humid hide today for him...

    Thanks,

    Sam (and George)
