You don't have to be certified for anything to ship a snake across country. I'm not certified for anything but I ship snakes out all the time. Usually use DHL and it costs about $50 to do so. Just make sure you have insulated boxes and warm packs if needed.

Do the people at DHL know that is what you are shipping? I tried reading their shipping rules and it was a little unclear. Says they allow non-venomous lizards, but doesn't mention snakes... I just don't wanna jeopardize the snakes. Having gone through them, have they been reliable?

Oh and by the way, I already have family there ready to accept the snakes so that is not an issue.

I don't really tell them what they are but they ship them just fine. There are holes in the boxes and fragile/perishable all over the box but they never ask.

I've only had one problem shipping because they've stopped shipping to remote areas and even if I ship overnight to a remote area they drop it off to the Post Office and who knows how long it takes from there. Luckily the snake made it there alive but it still took 3-4 days to get there. I don't know why when I shipped it they didn't tell me what was going to happen but luckily we got it taken care of. I'll know to make sure its not a remote area next time I ship.

I bring the packages to the local DHL place...set up shipment and leave the box there. They deliver to the home as well...thats the main place I ship to is homes.

Not very responsible IMO. Putting "live reptile" and "fragile/perishable" are two very different things, and could have a big effect on how the package is handled and stored during transit. Just because they don't ask isn't a good excuse. Not really in the best interest of the animal.

~_~ So how does one go about getting certified? If I plan on selling snakes through the mail in the future I think this could be important.

Like I said I've never had a problem before and have been shipping through them for a few years now. I do worry now about DHL cutting all the jobs they're cutting and closing quite a few of their express places. Haven't looked too much into it to figure out exactly how it'll affect shipping yet but if not I have other means of shipping. I did ship 4 big anacondas though DHL before and they knew what they were (even looked at them when I shipped them) and took them just fine.

I actually worry more that they will take less care of the box if they know that its a snake. We love snakes but of course there are many that hate them. I'd worry someone who hates snakes would get ahold of the box and not take care of it. I'd rather them not know for the safety of the snake myself, but what is responsible to you may not be responsible to me...maybe we just agree to disagree ;)
