Fogger for a BP?

I was having a low humidity problem last winter. I bought a larger water dish, moved it to the warm side, and covered 80% of the screen with foil. Also, lamps definitely suck humidity out, so if you are using one you could try moving it farther away or ditching it for UTH's

Just wondering, how is that racks are tougher to maintain humidity in? I've got a rack for my balls and I have 0 problems with keeping the humidity up even though the RAH in my room is around 40% inside the rack the humidity stays at an even 60% all of the time. I've got just a few holes in the front to get even air flow and it works just fine.

IMO a fogger would just be a needless expense. As has been said already a humidifier would do the job better and for much less money.

Sorry about that. I meant to say that it's tougher for me to maintain humidity in "MY" racks than my tanks. I have Freedom Breeder racks. I understand that rack systems where the tubs have lids and there are holes burned in the tubs are super easy to keep humid. Sorry for the confusion.

I wouldn't bother with it, if you have like a tank then just cover 3/4th of the top with a folded trash bag, this'll help the humidity dramatically. You can also get one of those big spray things that people use for pesticides and other stuff, you buy them at lowes and home depot and cost about $10.

I covered the top of mine with foil and duct tape, cut a few hole out, and just mist. it works wonders :gj: :gj:

I have a 2X3 by RBI. I have 3 hides in it one in each area of my heat gradient. My heat gradient is 82.5 - 92.5 F. I have a RHP installed. I put my water bowl which is wide and low directly under the hottest spot. I have a helix T-stat. There is a florecent bar light in the back but I keep that off most of the time. It is in a closed off room I have two fans for air circulation in the room. A celeing fan and a stand up fan. I was noticing that the cage would get too hot once I got the fans circulating that problem went away. The temps under each of my hides is 83, 86, 88 F. If there is any more info I can post just ask me. I am going to use a humidifier in the room I just like to try the zany kinda routes. I just figured a fogger would be cool. I dont mean a fogger with the whole unit inside the cage just one that would fog when the humidity got too low. Thank you all for your suggestions. I guess I wont try to be the cool kid with a bazillion dollar cage for one BP. :taz:

I have started using a sponge that's cut to fit into a small deli cup. I put in as much water as the sponge can hold and place it over the warm side of the tank. I make adjustments by how much polycarbonate is covering the screen lid of the tank.

The sponge helps the water to evaporate better than a regular standing dish of water. It's easy to clean, and if it gets tipped over it doesn't cause a flood or a mess.

One word...Bacteria...

Sponges are a breeding ground for nasty bacteria. I personally wouldn't use them in a Ball enclosure.

It's no different than using damp sphagnum moss to create a humid hide. People report using those quite often.

I clean the sponge every day or two with disinfectant and hot water. The main reason dish sponges are breeding grounds for bacteria is because they are used to clean dirty dishes with food matter. Some of the food stays behind on the sponge and helps to spawn bacteria. A clean, unused, uncontaminated sponge is far less likely to breed bacteria, especially when cleaned often. Yes, a sponge has lots of surface area which is conducive to bacteria, but only if the bacteria have something to eat and long enough to grow.
