Its not racist... and to generalize and say cops are racist is wrong. I come from a family of officers, my BIL is a cop, my MIL is a sgt, my husband is getting ready to go into the academy and thats just to name a few. None of them what-so-ever are racist.

The DRIVER who was 16 was breaking the law, thats why he was put in cuffs, exc. The PASSENGER was not breaking the law which is why he got to go home.

    RKO,
You can't have it both ways. Just a few days ago you were complaining because some kids, during the day time, were on the sidewalk by your house being loud and banging on your fence. And now your upset because the police are doing their job. As posted earlier you don't know the complete circumstances of the situation. So to say that the police were acting in a unfair or biased way is in fact a biased statement.
As for the curfew issue, And I know I'm going to get attacked here, but what does a sixteen year old KID need to be out at 2am for? Maybe they were coming back to do harm to you or your dog. Maybe you should be thanking the cops for patrolling your streets instead of complaining. :D

I'd say that it would be tough to know all of the details just from watching. If the driver has previous offenses or something then the passenger would be released and the driver would not.

How do you know their ages?

How do you know something else wasn't involved besides the curfew, how do you know that he didn't throw something in the grass?

As far as staffing of the police departments, it should match the race percentages in the city, town, or county you live. If your city is 95% white than it should be no surprise there is not a black officer. Also how many black officers have applied for a position with your city?

The whole picture needs to be looked, although I am not a police officer I do work in the public safety field and hear citizens opinions all the time.

The whole "needing backup"thing can only go so far though. There is no reason to search someones car, asking for 3 backup units, directing traffic around the stop .. for going a little too fast.

It's true that everyone in todays world need to be cautious, but the police around here srsly have nothing better to do. Another example of that is I live across the street from my church's parking lot. almost EVERY night you can catch 2-3 cars sitting side by side .. for hours. Talking about nothing one would assume due to its regular occurances and legth of time.

I thought the cops were stalking me, or checking out the house for a little while there until I got my licence and when driving around at 12-1am you can catch this happening all over town. 2-3 cars sitting in parking lots. It's dumb.

What would you rather have these cops doing? When you are not busy at work do you not gather with some of your work buddies and shoot the s**t. Or maybe check out the net. Would it be better for them to drive around the entire night and waste gas that is way to high. Again be thankful they are sitting out by your house. Maybe your car wont get broken into because they are there.

Hmm...I witness this a lot too in my hometown. Sounds like a perfectly good way to waste our tax dollars. If there's that many cops sitting around doing nothing, I think we need to lay off a few cops and use the money for their salary for something a little more productive.

I'll probably get flamed for my opinion, but oh well...

I definitely agree that many cops abuse their authority. I have a cop friend in LA that even agrees with me on that point. He's always saying there's jerk cops everywhere.

I'll give them the benefit of a doubt for the most part. I mean, I do know they get paid very little to do what they do. But pulling someone over for only 5 miles of the speed limit? Come on. I'm gonna try to not open the door for the "well, if evryone does it, its okay" argument, but 5 MPH over is almost a grace zone. I mean, technically its illegal to go over 5 mph in a parking lot, but I can't even remember the last time I witnessed anyone retaining that speed in a parking lot, including cops. I honestly believe many cops act like jerks just because they can.

I know I'm grateful for the police in my area that woke me up on Saturday while I was napping to let me know my building was on fire and I needed to get out.

Thankfully for the firewall and their quick response, the fire was contained to one unit.

Well, sure. But if these cops are doing so while they are on duty (i.e. while my tax dollars are paying them!), that is what irritates me.

And it doesn't take 3 squad cars to do surveillience. Its kinda like, why would I pay 3 people to change a light bulb when only one person is required to do the job?
