It's actually a mental disorder, we learned about it in Psych.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsive_hoarding

I have seen videos of hoarders talking about their problem. It's very sad. They don't like living the way they do but they have an unescapable urge to save things. I hope whoever owned that house got some help.

I dont know if that qualifies as hording?

That stuff isnt just things that she's bought or brought home from the curb, its just piles and piles of junk food bags, pizza boxes and cigarettes and soda cups.

Whatever it is, that sure does look like something mental is going on.

    From http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hoarding/DS00966:

    Quote:

Hoarding is the excessive collection of items that seem to have limited or no value, such as newspapers or trash, along with the inability to discard them. Hoarding creates such cramped living conditions that entire rooms may be filled to capacity, and homes may be left with only narrow pathways winding through stacks of clutter. Some people also collect animals, keeping hundreds of dogs, cats or other animals in their homes, as filth and waste pile up and the animals become sick.

I agree. That isn't hoarding. People who have a hording disorder don't keep every cigarette butt and ash. That is sick, it's just filth. I think that a hoarder would stack the cups and junk. Hoarders have piles of stacked newspapers and trash. I think that people like this have no regard for themselves, or anything at all for that matter. She's just a slob.

This reminds me of a guy I saw driving down the street the other day. I pulled up next to him and glanced over and noticed that his entire back seat was filled with fast food bags, papers, and other trash. It was literally piled up to the top of the front seats, and his front passenger seat was filled up to the window line. It was like a rolling dumpster, with just enough space for the guy to get in and drive.

I agree that this is a mental condition. I've always been concerned that my mom has this, but not to such a severe degree. She has old news papers from as far back as 20 years ago as well as old junk mail stacked probably 3 feet high on her kitchen table and every time we've tried to go through it and clean, she says that she's not ready to throw some of that stuff away. I think if it ever got to this point where she wasn't throwing away fast food bags and cups, I'd have to intervene and insist that she get help. As it is now, it's just clutter and not posing any kind of physical health concerns.

I guess they never learned how to use a garbage can.

I flip out when I get anything on my computer, I can't imagine having ash all over it.

There is a guy like that where I live in Boston. He has a pickup truck that is completley full of random crap. The bed has tree branches sticking out of all the trash, the passenger seat has stuff that almost goes to the ceiling, and the dashboard is covered. I seriously wonder how he fits in their.
