It's just supply/demand. Making a BEL isn't that difficult really. If it were a recessive trait well that'd be different. But I can't imagine lucy's dropping below $1500, hell if I had them I'd sell them for $2000, especially when you consider how much a pied costs.

LOL with everything else in the world going up in price, I'm stoked that they're dropping! If you're in it to make a certain amount of money, just produce more :)

True with gas prices and everything its nice to see something affordable. But still I kinda wished they would slow down alil, it just doesnt seem fair for some breeders.

Actually, the BEL is a recessive trait of sorts. The only difference is that you can tell the hets from normals. You still need a pair of genes to make it.

BEL are made from mojaves, lessers, butters and russo. Fires make Black eyed lucys. Yellow belly/goblins make ivories.

I hope you're not as sympathetic to big oil companies. :-)

Also, I think one thing that affects the price is the quality of the BEL. Some people say a mojo x lesser is the best, others say butter x mojo, etc... I haven't seen enough in person to compare the different morphs being crossed, but I have seen a few that have a blue-ish head, and others have a blazing white head. I think the blazing white is more impressive, but it's probably a lot of personal preference.

Personally as usual I'm torn when i see the prices of snakes I want dropping. As a person who wishes to own a bel, I love when the price is lower as it puts it closer within my reach. As a breeder who will hopefully make some in 2010 I hate it. What will be, will be.

But don't expect to make your money back in your first year and you'll be fine. Better yet, even if mojo/lessers are $200 in 2010 you breed a male BEL to 5 females...all your money back plus more.

Again I can't see them getting too cheap still, I mean look at Ivories, Ivories are still $1500+ which are made with a snake that averages $125 for a boy and $250-$350 for a girl. I do think some of the base level co-doms will start to come down but that's because combo-morphs will become more prevailant.
