I think it really depends, and once you are with someone, you kinda involve yourself with their groups and hobbies anyway.

    Just my personal experience. :)

True for some Heather, that's for sure. Mike and I lucked out I guess that we both sort of fell in love with ball pythons, and that lead to other snakes, together and at about basically the same time. The only difference is that day we bought our first snake I was all impressed with the "cute" corn snakes, Mike liked the look of the girthy baby BP's. Once he did get me to stop oogling the corns and actually hold a BP, I was soooooooo hooked!

Now if we could only agree on what direction the collection should be going LOL. We have very different tastes in morphs it seems.

Me too. From what I see at shows, both browsers and vendors, I'd say guys in this hobby out number women at least 7:1

Definitely think overall that there are more guys in the hobby -- but there do seem to be comparatively more females on BP.net than other forums  probably why its the "friendliest online herp community"

Men it seems are more into the 'omg i'm a tough guy so i own a snake look at my tattoos arent i tuff, rawr'

Women I've seen more seem to be in it for the passion, not the show-y part of owning reptiles.

Though I'm not saying that guys aren't in it for the passion either I just see lots of guys that try to 'act all tuff' with their snakes which is why our shared passion is looked down upon.

I think most guys are too "tuff" to go online and learn how to properly take care of their snake:rolleyes:

Ditto. Thats why I didnt vote.

The answer may vary depending on one's location.

Yeah there are more guys than gals who own snakes, but that's because your average snake owner is some kid who talked his parents into buying him a pet, and I'm sure that category of snake owner is pretty dominated by the guys.

If you look at people who own multiple herps, or are into herps for many, many years, the representation by gender is probably fairly split down the middle. However I think that the people who are more serious about snakes and other herps are much fewer in number than single-snake owners(especially impulse-buyers).
