After drilling holes, humidity is still extremely high?

I'm using newspaper as substrate. The Acu-Rite is above the substrate like attached to the side of the enclosure. The unit is on the cool side and i placed the sensor on the warm side under the hide...

I'd pull out the unit, pull the batteries and let it sit outside the enclosure until it drops to what you think is your room humidity. I'd air out the enclosure at the same time. Once you have a baseline idea of what the room is like that your enclosure is in and the Acu-Rite appears to be reading the room correctly, put it back in and see what happens.

How big is this enclosure and how many holes have you already put in it?

its like 6"H x 15"W x 25 1/2"D and i put in like 14 holes on both sides

right now im just seeing if it goes down with just the holes and water bowl on the cool side...its gone from HI to 78% so far...hopefully it continues to decrease

take it out and measure the room. how high is the humidity in the room?

I have an Acurite that got messed up from a wet dart frog vivarium at some point and reads Hi %, even sitting out in a room with 30% humidity. You might need a new one.

Taking the batteries out now then replacing and measuring the rooms humidity

Took the batteries out, replaced them, and waited a while while the thermometer read the humidity for the room, and i got 55%

Considering the humidity in the room is fairly high, I would drill more holes. I had to drill tons of holes in my girls tub to get it down to 60%.
