eyes are diffrent size

well i talked to him yesterday snake was 500$ holy christ
he emailed lll about the problem and how he beleives he was duped into buying a genetic defect(or rather into keeping it) he,s only been off feed for about 1 month after shipping i dunno if they force fed or not just to recoup there costs maybe? the whole issue has gone south since he got the snake
they didnt have the pic of the snkae up whne he orderd it but i,ll do my best to see he takes it into a vet at least i cant promise anything but hopefully he coughs up the cash i,ll even offer to drive, its to late though for a fecal they might get somthin if they can get a vent wash sample maybe,i,ll keep you posted lll hasnt contacted him back yet (it was a pretty brutal email)

Pretty bad situation all round, hope it can get resolved somehow. What a sh** start to life for this little spider!:(

Is your friend going to keep it? If the seller takes it back I'm pretty sure he will try to unload on to someone else, making a profit Im sure as well!

If he can't offer a sensible solution i would bring the situation to a relevant authority, whether its being miss-sold on the internet, or to an animal welfare group similar to the RSPCA that we have over here in uk for selling unhealthy livestock.

From what I understand the seller is not a breeder. They buy cheap from breeders, up the price, and resell. If this is true about them selling a deformed spider, then it is the breeders fault for selling to them, and their fault for selling to someone else. This is all around a bad situation. I would definatley get pics, and post on the BOI.

The small eye should not cause a problem for the snake at all. I have a Pinstripe female that I hatched last year that has a very tiny eye on one side, and a normal eye on the other. She is a little over 1000 grams now, and happens to be one of the nicest snakes I own.

Lastly, I would like to ask Steve why he is so certain that this problem is a "Genetic" defect? I have hatched out plenty of Pinstripes from my male, and only produced the one female with a small eye. Matter of fact, none of the other pinstripes in the clutch (nor the lemon blasts in the clutch) had a small eye. It may be a deformity, but I would definitely not call it genetic.

Wouldn't you have to prove it out to see if the "small eye" is genetic, just like any other trait? The problem is that it's not ethical or practical to prove out a line of deformed snakes just to see if it's genetic. So we may never know. But then again how did the head wobble on spiders propagate? Someone must have known and just kept breeding and selling them anyway.

If it is genetic or not, it does not change the fact that this person is claiming that he was sold a snake with a deformity, and was not told about it up front. That is wrong in my opinion.

I agree that if the seller knew about the deformity and didn't disclose that information before the sale that is dishonest and wrong.

I was commenting on if the deformity is genetic or not, it didn't have anything to do with whether or not the seller was wrong to do that.

well he is gonna taken it to the vet on fri to make sure and we still havnt got a response from lll , your right they just buy from a breeder and resale them but the shipping box came from there store so there responsible imo either way if it is not genetic then maybe he can still breed it out, he,s emailing me some pic,s atm and i,ll put em up asap
and if anyone knows for sure if it is genetic , heraditary or anything opposite plz lemme know

Ed, Winky is whom I was speaking of in my post. She is actually close to 1100 grams, and eats like a freight train. Definitely one of the sweetest snakes in the collection. Also, I plan on breeding her this year, as I don't think her deformity is genetic at all. We will see how her offspring do. I am not sure if she will make it to size this year, but maybe. If not, she will definitely breed next year.

I believe that some deformities just happen. These can be anything from minor overbites, small eyye, no eye and bent tail tip. I am not sure what causes them, but they only pop up randomely, or sometimes in an entire clutch. Her condition seemed like a fluke, since no other animal in the clutch, or no other animal from her father has ever had that problem. I guess breeding her is the only way to find out, and you know how much I like my science projects. These"science projects" that people do are so paramount for the future learning of our hobby.
