How is that going to traumatize anyone in any undesirable way?

Trauma is associating one thing (an action, place, or thing) with a strongly negative outcome, and the more strongly negative the initial outcome is, the more likely the subject is to avoid that act/place/thing in the future.

If these kids are associating violence and socially unacceptable behavior with getting put in jail, and associating jail with a really unpleasant experience that they never, ever want to live again (without being physically hurt in the process) then that's A-OK with me.

Also, I always hear about people talking about how other people don't do a good job of raising their kids. These kids were submitted voluntarily by their parents, and now people are complaining that this is too harsh. There's no beating involved - just psychological domination in a controlled setting, which is all that's really allowed in the way of parenting anymore.

I swear it's impossible to do the "right thing" in this world. Everyone's got an opinion.

All that is going on here is military style indoctrination training which consists of first breaking them down and then building them back up. It is a relatively successful method for people with follower type personalities, which is most people.

Yep, welcome to real life. What a great program. If I had been in something like that when I was eleven, I might not of ended up where I did a few times. I have had my run ins with the law( when I was younger, I am a good grown-up now and a daddy) and I have spent some time behind bars, I know what it is like. Also having been a good natured kid who just did not know what to do with myself, jail was not fun. If kids want to act like little bad asses, they should be shown how much of a bad ass they need to be if they wanna continue on the same path.

yea...a recent poll showed that more kids are having sex by age 11. 11 y'all!!! That is aweful!

Interestingly enough...most said the first kind of sex they experience is oral...that way they don't 'get pregnant'.

I believe it. When I was in 6th grade I had homeroom with this ghetto fabulous girl who had already had two abortions. :O

When I was in 1st grade I had two girlfriends, but they would just argue who got to rub my back during story time. Kids these days...

If parents WOULD teach their kids, then cops(or school, or teachers, or whoever????) wouldn't have to have programs like this. I'm not saying all parents are poor parents, or that all kids are lousy kids.
But look around you sometime! I see too many kids that think if it's not being watched well enough then it's the owner's fault they stole something! NOT KIDDING. I heard a kid say outright that he grabbed two $20 bills off a counter. His excuse was "Well, the cashier wasn't even looking."
    Excuse me?
His mother was informed and she AGREED it was no big deal.
THAT is why I'll say go for it to any programs that might teach kids to behave like a responsible adult. AND why I'll kick the butt of any kid that steals ANYthing from me, no matter HOW small an item. AND I'll call the cops, AND the parents.
I've had kids destroying the front of the shop I work in, and when I go to yell at them to cut it out, the parent will try to tell me not to, becuase THEY are the mom(dad) and I have no right. Every time I told them that if they would step their lazy butt up and DO the parenting, then I wouldn't have to.
    Today it's just ridiculous.

I hate to say it. But the world seems to be falling apart. 8 yr old's having promiscuous sex and doing drugs. That makes me want to throw up.

And the last 30 or so generations have been saying the same thing about previous generations. You have to realize our culture historically (and many cultures still today) recognized 9 to 11 years old as reasonable ages to marry off their daughters, usually to considerably older men. The youngest mother in the world was 5 years old, and she gave birth in 1933.

Personally, I don't think anything has changed that much from generation to generation, besides the flow of information. Sex has become a topic we can discuss, quite openly, and so it seems as though the world has come to an end.

No doubt, pre-teens were doing drugs and having sex 50 years ago too... it's just not something that was discussed.
