It is only 12" by 8". Considering a 10 gallon tank is 20" x 10", I would say I wouldn't keep more then a 1.2 group in it, and that would most likely still be way too overcrouded once the babies showed up. (keep in mind, a 1.2 group means that sooner or later you will have at LEAST 23 rats in it at once! With any luck, you will have 31 rats in it at once!!!!) Yeah, no way I would even keep a 1.2 in it now that I think about it. 1.1 maybe.

I keep 1.3 in my 10 gallon tanks, and that is in my opinion absolutle full capacity.

The next size up would work for a 1.3 group. Price goes up tho. they are $36.95 for a 18 7/8" x 13 3/4".

After seeing time and time again what they can do to the plastic top rim of a glass tank, I have got to believe that sooner or later, they will figure out how to get a tooth on that top rim, and chew... especially when it is so easy to reach. they don't even have to jump or climb to get to it!

Well they are breeding well at 1.2 ratios in those little breeder cages not had any chewing issues at all,yes when the wean I will move them to a bigger grow out cage I won't keep 25 rats in that cage.plus I don't know how you guys keep rodents in glass tank what a pain to wash & clean:mad:.I you do mice those cages are perfect!!

I keep mine in 10 gallon glass tanks. They are small and light. Believe it or not, I would venture to say that I could clean one of my tanks the same amount of time it takes you to clean one of these enclosures. Not much to it... dump old aspen, put new in. Every once in a while spray tank out with water.

I use a similar rack for mine. and have for the last year. Although the mouse cages I find too small and they get way over crowded. Expecially with good producing trios. I havent had them eat the tubs at all. The way the lids are made they cant really grab the rims. at least not on mine. I have longer tubs for my softfurs. They are about the same depth though. If you want I can take some pics later on.
I have found that some of the metal tops are not strong enough and those almost weaned or weanling babies can slip out. Which is no fun.

I agree with mike, that just looks like way too small to my eye for a full trio. Just keep an eye on it, good luck.

I got bigger cages but they seem to work,they are not as active as mice or rats I think?

I have 2 groups of 1.4 in 20g tanks. This has worked out really well for me and the colonies.
