It's not fake, I've seen other numerous reports about this animal from BCC as well as National Geographic and Steve Irwin has talked about it before.
To the bird, the chainsaw is just like a bird call, and it wants to mimic the sound as much as it can to sound like the 'bird call' so it doesn't matter what kind of sound it is. :]
