That is exactly why I went for a mac. I have a few friends that came to college freshman year with a mac and four years later still have their original computers. Most of my friends that had a PC are on their second one because they crapped out. I'd rather spend the extra money and get a quality computer that will last me along time instead of buying a cheaper one every 2 years.

About 2 years ago my wife paid over $3000 for a mac laptop when it was the latest and greatest version. She was influenced by a yuppie co worker to do so. When it was 3 months old the receptacle for the power cord broke. I called the local Apple facility and they told me that the first models of the tiger whatever it was had regular problems with the receptacles and now they used another kind because they had so many problems. I could bring it to them and for a fee they would change it to a new one. I went to the large mall that they were located in and found that it was located in the center of the place. The notebook slipped out of my hands on the long walk in and I was momentarily glad that I had bought her a very expensive Apple padded case made for her specific model. When I got to the Apple store they informed me that the screen was cracked and the unit was not repairable. They would now sell me a new one for $3000 and would generously transfer the data for free. They would not take into account that their defective plug in design was the initial problem. They have no concern for the customer. I told them that I would never own one of their products again as long as I live. If you want durability get a Toshiba Toughbook. They are Mil Spec. From now on I use PC's only. I'm on a Dell laptop right now.

I got the applecare, no worries. Apple has a sweet deal going now for students. I got $100 off the computer, $66 off the applecare, and a free Ipod touch. Can't go wrong with that. :gj:  I think they also have a discount on the printers, but I didn't need one.

PC just because I am used to it, but MAc makes way better platform for A/V editing and graphic design. I really want a full Linux laptop set up from Lenovo.

So you dropping your mac makes it their fault? LOL If I fall and rip my new jeans... should Bootlegger give me a new pair?

I loooooooooove my Mac. I've always had a mac... They totally rock my world. In all the years I've had Macs... only had to take my puter in twice to get it fixed. They are sooo easy to fix yourself.

    Love my Mac!!!:gj:

I have a macbook pro that I have had for over 2 years. The only problem I have had with it was my roommate dropping a picture frame on it and denting the back case. This has absolutely nothing to do with the build quality of the computer. Actually it is a testament to its quality. A 10 pound picture frame with a 5 foot fall right to the back of the screen and the lcd is flawless. I replaced the back case my self no problems. Seems that even though it is a laptop its very easy to work on.

Since I've got a BFA in Graphic Design... I have to say Mac. Yes they're more expensive, but the service plan is second to none, they're super durable, they're quick and zippy... and gosh darn it, they're pretty!

I do have an ancient PC though - I still use it, just not as much as my Mac.

personaly, i think unless your talking about the toughbook, the physical durability claims are all bs, because i have herd stories from every brand being 'durable'. as far as customer service, yes mac is generally better. but thats what you get for paying a minimum $500 over a pc with comparable hardware. if they are going to charge that kind of money, you shouldn't have to pay that extra 250 for the care plan.
