Re: Temp UTH =/= temp substrate, help !
I use a layer of newsprint paper under a light layer of aspen for my BPs and it works great!

But yes, you must have the t-stat probe OUTside the tank and taped (with foil tape - holds up to heat better and won't move around) to the UTH for accurate measuring. A digital thermoMETER Inside the tank, or a good temp gun, is a must for keeping track of temps INSIDE where it matters. My Herpstat is currently set at 102 for my rack to keep warm temps of 91-94 throughout. The thermometer reading is what needs to be watched, not the t-stat.

And if you have your temps at the glass around 94/95 then she'll be fine sitting there. But 105 isn't good. With a few adjustments and thinner substrate, things should be good. :)

I use reptibark (Stan seems to like it) but I realized he kept burrowing through it to the glass so I put a layer of paper towels and then kind of sprinkle the repitbark around in a real thin layer. Stan seems to like it.
