To hot is just as bad if not worse then it being cold, you need to get a temp off where the heat pad is because the readings are off if it is warm when you stick your hand in...remember you are 98 degrees so if it is warm to you it is over that....

I would go with one or the other but you should also really get an accurate temp on the hot side...

109 isn't stable...that is to high, it shouldn't be to much more than 90....

    Anyone else have any suggestions?

Glad to hear your digi-therm has stabilized. The readings don't usually bounce the way you reported. :confuzd:

Your temp is way high right now, so, dial your dimmer down almost all the way. Allow the temp time to drop and make any further adjustments in very small increments. It just doesn't take much energy to run the pads at 90*, with a goal of 90*-92*. When I used a rheostat, it was all but turned off, meaning the least amount of voltage was being delivered to the heat pad. Also, as room temps fluctuate, so will the pad. Rheostats are great for constant room temps but otherwise have to be watched.

Humidity - large water dish and one or two mistings a day will help bring the humidity up.

dont have the dimmer right now . I unplugged the pad and left the light on . temp is around 95 now . cool side 78 . put a dish on the pad or under light and humidity is 50 %

Now if it stays like this do I need to plug the pad back in ? or can I just do with out it and only have the light ?

The best thing I did was wrote on a post-it note 80-84 on my Cold side & 90-94 on my Hot side & stuck them right to my tank.

I kept tweaking my tank for 3 long weeks or more to get it right...

Then I made a post-it note that read 50-60% Humidity.

Hang in there, Myself & some others have been there so dont feel bad
