yeah shes alot cleaner in pattern, the woman told me she didnt eat a whole lot for a year... but she said that they are about the same age... i find it a little hard to believe they are close in age because of the sheer difference in size.

To be a 100% on what spp. and locale you had, there are several factors. The subcaudal, dorsal and ventral scale count differ from spp. Then they count saddles, look at head shapes and coloration. It's a very tricky thing to get a 100% ID on an animal.

It's hard to tell if she will darken as much as the larger female, they age differently. Some stay nice and light, while most do tend to darken with age. That could be as dark as she gets though. :)

It is super hard to figure out locale unless they came with a paper trail. Locale typically refers to Bcc's (Suriname, Guyana, Cay Caulker, etc etc.) For that info, http://www.riobravoreptiles.com is an awesome site and also Vin's site: http://www.cuttingedgeherp.com/localityboas/.

I'm pretty certain yours are both Bci's. These are the normal Columbia boa. Very beautiful snakes :gj:

either way, BCC or BCI still awesome... ahha.

i dont plan on breeding them [mom thinks it would be cool] but with the economy... i dont wanna end up feeding my 8 snakes, plus a but load of babies too...
so really specific specifics arnt my worry... just curiosity ahha

No no no Sara; it was a really good question because the care of a bcc and bci differ somewhat.
I am certain you've got bci's and so the care will be somewhat easier and similar to bp's needs but cooler.
Also, have you looked at AP cages? I'm thinking the T20....

Locale can refer to any species.

With Bci there is; Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, Hog Island, Roatan Island, Venezuela, Ecuador, Belize, El Salvador, Corn Island localities, among others.

Caulker Cays are Bci too. :)

I am 80% sure your girls are Bci, probably Colombian. If you will wait until they shed, you can do scale counts much easier. :D

BCC
scale counts - 75 to 95 dorsal rows.
227 to 250 ventrals.
49 to 62 subcaudals.
Average 15 to 21 saddles.

BCI
scale counts - 56 to 79 dorsal rows.
225 to 253 ventrals.
47 to 65 subcaudals.
Average 22 to 30 saddles.

BCA ( Amaral Boa)
scale counts - 71 to 79 dorsal rows.
226 to 237 ventrals.
43 to 52 subcaudals.
Average 22 saddles.

BCL (Longicauada)
scale counts - 60 to 76 dorsal rows.
243 to 247 ventrals.
50 to 67 subcaudals.
Average 19 to 21 saddles.

BCO (Occidentalis)
scale counts - 65 to 87 dorsal rows.
242 to 251 ventrals.
45 subcaudals.
Average 22 to 30 saddles.

when talking about saddles.
those are the circles correct?
and do i count to the tip of the tail?

Oh jeez Crissy- thanks for jogging my sluggish memory and incomplete knowledge base. Time for me to read (again) my Vin Russo boa book ;)

I've learned from other boa forums (:O) that even with a scale and saddle count you can still come up with a head scratch since bci's don't always follow the geographical 'lines in the sand' that humans put there. This makes it hard to know for certain unless there is a paper trace for the individual snake. :oops:

thats what i have read aswell...

The saddles are the dark markings separating the circles.

The sub caudal scales are the horizontal scales on the belly that go from the cloaca to the tip of the tail.

Also, am I correct in remembering that bci's are more tall and rectangular shaped than the more round bcc's?

ok, do the saddles go to the tip of the tail?
or just where the tanish circles stop?
