    I had the same problem when I used a rheostat. Fortunately Argenta told me not to stick the UTH to the tank, which was good because even on the lowest setting the UTH was too hot. I ended up putting a little cardboard between the UTH and the tank to get the right temperature, the cardboard plus the rheostat being on the lowest setting (taped so the dial could not move) did the trick.

    I was surprised that the rheostat did not lower the readings more, but I guess a small UTH doesn't need much electricity and the rheostat didn't limit the juice enough. The warm side stays pretty even, only varying a couple of degrees with that setup, the cool side has a thermostat.
