Re: oh my gosh oh my gosh!!! could use some help
well I will say this, There was some dispute as to if "Big Mama" was in fact female. for the price I paid for her she really should have been a male. But now that can be laid to rest and I can look forward to breeding her to my pastel next year.
so on to the next question... how do I keep her at a good healthy weight? keep up with what I'm doing now?
I'm almost certain that it was her weight that made this happen. she is still well over 2000 grams and he is only 5 years old so power feeding must have happened with the breeder I bought her off of. I was feeding her a x-large rat every 7 days, he was feeding her every 4 to 5 days on jumbos. I felt that was a little much so I knocked down her food intake and fed her once a week like every one else.

Re: oh my gosh oh my gosh!!! could use some help
Wow - good luck with that little egg - reminds me of Nemo
Is weight a big factor of slug-outs?
Re: oh my gosh oh my gosh!!! could use some help
I have been told it is. Under weight or over weight female produce more slugs. or so I have read on quite a few breeders websites. So I'll take there experience for truth.

As far as I know, it doesn't take 5 years at ALL to get a female up to breeding weight. ;]
I really doubt it was her weight, breeders often breed females between 1200-2000g. Sometimes, first time clutches I have heard can be all slug outs. I know it is very common with corns I don't know as much if it is for balls. :]
Re: oh my gosh oh my gosh!!! could use some help
Well this was her first clutch but like you I really dont know. She was in the 4000 gr range when I got her and her weight has been stable up to now.

Sometimes... Sure.
Always, nope.
:)
Younger females are more likely, under and overweight are more likely, but there is never a set for sure reason for slugs.

Yes, an overweight female with a lot of fat can indeed slug out.
Jessie, I wouldn't even be feeding her X-L rats. I'd tone her down to nice mediums or small larges. You want her to be athletic, not fat.
