well if you think about it, FLAC comes in the form of 0s and 1s you very well cant hear 00101101 can you. So you put in a DAC (most computer sound cards come with an on board poopie DAC) to convert the 0s and 1s to pure sound. The better the DAC the better the sound is. when buying a high end sound card like the Razer Barracuda (awesome if you ask me and the logo is 3 ball pythons) your paying more for the DAC than anything else on the card.
