    Why don't you have a bucket or 'dumping container' of some sort and a jug of fresh water with you when you change water? That way you can do it all right there and just dump out the bucket when you're done. :D

    I place the water bowl in then fill it with a small cup. When I remove it a couple days later it is down far enough to remove with out spillage. If so , then new paper towels are in order. If it is a cage with substrate and it is only a few drops no big deal.

    i use a little larger bowl than they need, then fill it up about 1/2 or 3/4 the way full, it makes it alot easyer.

    i have some cages that open from the top, that are above my head so i need a stool to get to them...

    thats the best method ive used.
