    The hermie setup looks nice, but they will die within a year because they cannot molt in wood chips of any kind. You need 3 times the height of your biggest crab in either sand or coco fiber.

    So I am aware that this is an old thread. But, I just wanted to clarify that the title of the thread WAS a joke. Apparently a bad one. Sorry guys. :(

    Also, to whoever mentioned molting - I know. :oops: All I had at the time was the mulch (left over from the croc skink) so I used it up. I was eventually able to switch over to sand, and since then the tank has developed into this:

    The 2 crabs turned into 6 and then in the past two weeks or so ... 7. :O I don't buy them; I only rescue unwanted hermits. Everyone is alive and well and they've all gone through at least one molt - two crabs have had two molts. that's a 40gal tank which stays out on the patio with 80* weather and 80% humidity pretty much permanently.
