My friends have had good experiences with Godaddy.com although I've never bothered with a website (I had a simple FTP a while back but got rid of it as I lost the need for one).

Godaddy.com
It's going to be the cheapest depending on what kind of domain you want- exct.
Your not gonna get a free site that doesn't have some sort of limitations.. and probably not a very good style sheet.
Do you know CSS well?

Me too. It is worth it to me to know that I am not illegally using a free site to plug my business. As many free websites prohibit business-related selling on them.. And if you're selling something, you're not going to want a bunch of ads on your page for other junk :)
It sounds funny, but MySpace is a great promotional tool in addition to a "real" site. My husband tattoos, and merely by having a public profile with pics of his tattoos that he has done, he gets a few hits each month by people coming in for tattoos because they saw his MySpace :)

The code for godaddy to get 6.95 domains is chill3

I am a web consultant and can vouch on GoDaddy hosting. Just go to GoDaddy.com setup a linux econ hosting and get a domain for 1.99 with that purchase. Included with the hosting is a GoDaddy Connections plan. It has tons of free apps you can install like Joomla and Droopal. Best thing is they install it for you. Places like 1&1 really dont have the resources to actually give you the space they advertise unless you run a ded/V-ded server. Although you probabally would tap into a full 10 gigs of space.

I tried godaddy hosting and it was horrible, a lot of downtime, laggy server and bad customer support when it was needed. I have used innohosting and hostgator, both great, now I have a resellers box from innohosting.
