You can always fill up a large jug with city water, and leave it open to the air over night. The chlorine will evaporate away.

I love city water, I think it tastes oh so good. :)

I read this, and my entire view on bottled water has changed. Bottled water: What a waste of space.

I use R.O. water since that's what I use for myself and all my other critters.

Most people discussing tap water have little understanding of the EPA regulations concerning the production of drinking water. Bottle water actually has fewer standards governing it's quality due to the fact that bottled water is governed by the FDA. Also, most faculities in the US now have declorination procedures as per the EPA regulations. I believe the maximum clorine levels in drinking water were almost cut in half a few years ago after research proved that concentrations over a certain level increase risk of cancer in humans. Alot of newer faculities (and retrofitted older faculities) are going to UV sterilization these days. Interesting stuff.

Most of your 'purified' water is just tap water that has been run through a few more mineral reducers to get rid of taste. Nothing special.

Funny thing about tap water is that the majority of the contaminants come from the system after it is processed (i.e. soil/groundwater infiltration into broken pipes or you don't clean the green slime out of the inside of your faucets (yep, it is in just about every one ;)))

I never take the water stuff too seriously......we are keeping reptiles....not fish....unless the water has rat poison in it....we are good to go :)

I use tap water for the snakes and rodents but I add ReptiSafe conditioner to the snake water (gallon jug) since I can get it cheap. The rodents just get straight tap... but we drink bottled because I get sick if I drink straight tap water. Not sure why...I just have a sensitive system. :)

I only use purified bcause I can't stomache the taste of tap water. We had to get a purifier so I would drink the water. I kept ending up sick from not drinking water. Just the smell of tap water turns my stomache. The purifier helps. I always liked well water, even though I'm sure it is loaded with crap. But now we live in town and YUCK! Must be the chlorine.
