Glad to hear your rats are ok, and that the AC is getting fixed. Having no AC is NO fun. I did it for 2 days last summer, and the weather wasn't as hot as what you are dealing with.

I'm not sure I believe the "dry heat" thing either. You might be more comfortable because the humidity definitely feels gross. But my personal experience tells me that 95 degrees that "feels like" 100 really isn't like 100 at all as far as making me feel sick.

At eight AM. Yeah if we can live through it, so can they. But good on ya for worrying like that. It says a lot about ya.

No, sorry, that is not true at all. Rats succumb to heat exposure a lot easier than humans. They regulate their heat through their tales, and are in a fur coat for heavens sake. The only sweat glands they have are on the soles of their feet.

Keep rats cool, mist them down when its over 90, keep fans on them, and out of direct sunlight.

You live near death valley? I imagine the humidity is extremely low, and super hot. You'll likely have to deal with ring tail quite a bit with that low humidity, and expect seriously low litters if you can't keep them cool. (70's range)
