Sorry if this really WAS a hijack

1/4-1/3 is fine. Some people will even go up to 1/2 if the the UTH isn't that powerful.

I use Ultratherm, I live in AZ though so its easy for me to keep ambient temperatures up and the heat pads work perfectly for the basking side

I think it is like 1/4 or 1/3 - 1/3 is what I've heard most

Anyone have any experiences with Cobra heat mats? I've seen them on closeout at Petco.

I use Habistat heat mats and thermostats over here in UK.Doing a search for ultratherm as they sounded pretty good, i found they are made in Scotland.

On the habistat pad, it says made in Scotland, so it appears....to cut a long story short, its an Habistat ultratherm pad, though it doesn't use the phrase ultratherm on the pad..........GOSH, this is a boring post of mine,... u all asleep yet????

all my UTH's are T-rex and I've never had a problem with them. As for the rack that uses flexwatt and its working great so far. Never tried the others so I can't say. :D

This is so true! After a lot of research on this same question, Ultratherm has my vote all the way!

Unfortuntely I have a cold house so can't use them for anything but the cool end and plumped for flexwatt instead.

I use Ultratherm I like the fact that it is UL safety tested which I don't think Flex watt is.
