    Hey Mindibun,

I went into my local petshop today for rats and they have a pair of those for £95 ($180). :O

WC and the female has damage to the tip of her tail but she looked like she had eggs in her to me - the guy had never heard of them sitting still when picked up so he was delighted and I have to say thank you to you from him. :D

I have a question about that foam though - is it the florists foam that crumbles into sand like particles when rubbed or is it something more substantial?

I ask because the burrow set up reminds me of some designs I have seen for spider tanks.

They used breeze blocks sitting on sand and had a tube to pur water down directly into the sand to control how humid the burrow became.

No, that foam is not the same. This stuff is like, ... I don't know how to describe it. It's more like the foam they make sponges for washing cars out of. You can rip it and tear it if you pull hard enough, and it can easily be cut, but it doesn't flake.

Anyway, I'm not having any trouble with my humidity at all it turns out. I still haven't misted, and the accurite can't even read the humidity it's so high. It just says "hi%" which is perfect.

The source that I am getting my lizard from doesn't charge nearly that much. It could be where you're located, but this place is also usually really good on their prices. Theirs are also in very good condition. They have one male there that's just gorgeous. Makes me sorry I'm starting with a female. -lol- I'm just getting a female for now but hope to get a male later on down the road. I'd like to breed them and get the knowledge out to more people. I've made it a point to learn all I can about these guys; I'm fascinated by them.

As for the shop person not knowing that they keep still when picked up, well, hadn't he had to pick them up to put them into the tanks there? You would think he would have noticed it. They're known for playing dead. I read one account where the people found that the lizards can even make their eyes appear shriveled - how crazy is that?

What's the name of the store, if you don't mind me asking? I'm trying to find anyone and everyone who has ever had or currently has these guys.

    Hi,

    He's kind of a scaredy cat.:giggle:

I think he just opened the bag they came in and tipped it into the tank. He was also trying to feed then locust hoppers so pointed him in the direction of worms and larvae. :gj:

The store is called Aquacadabra2 - but I think it might be a bit of a commute for you. :D

I must admit I was tempted when I saw them.

I had probably better tell him about the eyes next time I'm in or gord alone knows what might happen.

Are you going to take them to a vet for a parasite check or health check?

I totally understand the scaredy-cat bit. But you can tell him I'm petrified of lizards and I picked these guys because they're totally docile and slow. :gj:

You really should get one or a pair, Dr. Del. I need someone to share stories with about them! :D;) I doubt they'd go to a better home than yours anyway.

And yes, you should definitely mention the playing dead thing, and the eyes and whatnot. I'd hate for him to be one of the ones who throws it away, not realizing. My brother was laughing at me because he said when my lizard gets "old and grey" I'm going to think it's just playing dead when it finally really does pass. He said I'm going to be cleaning a tank and tossing food in for the dead lizard for a week before I finally go, "Huh. That thing really is dead!" :8: It made me laugh.

And as for the vet, yes, I will be taking it (or them) in. I'll probably wait a few days to let them get settled before traumatizing them like that, though. I checked the female I bought while I was at the store last. (This was particularly difficult for me because it meant putting my face near her. But for the benefit of the animal, I did it. Brownie points for me! :D) I noticed that she did have maybe 2 or 3 ITTY BITTY little white bugs on her, and when I asked the clerk they said that sometimes those come in the bedding. I don't know if that's true or not, but it's definitely set me wanting to do a vet check.

Also, I got the contact info for a professor somewhere in Whales or Canada or the UK - one of those (I suck at geography) who went to PNG to study them. I sent him a message asking for any info he might have access to. I'm hoping he'll send me a reply. :please:

    One last thing -
You want one of those lizards. You NEED one of those lizards. Or two. You could breed them. The world needs more CB tribbies! They are rare in the wild - you'd be doing the hobby and the planet a great favor, Dr. Del. Trust me, you definitely want a Crocodile Skink. ;) I can totally help you through the whole thing. We got this - just hop on my bandwagon.
