Re: Ranco/Johnson vs. Zoo Med vs. Herpstat? Need your imput!
Hmm, heard of it but don't know anything about it. I would go with the Herpstat. A well-known, trusted and reliable brand. And just go with the regular Herpstat, the Pro seems only to be worth it in incubators...or so I've gathered.
I will never knock my ZooMed stats, since they are life savers allowing me to keep my quarantined ball pythons in separate rooms. However, once I have the money to spare I am buying a Herpstat.
Re: Ranco/Johnson vs. Zoo Med vs. Herpstat? Need your imput!
Bottom line is that cheap thermostats will work; how well they work and the amount of risk you put your animal in is a choice you make when considering using a low end thermostat. I did it for a while and it was very annoying to maintain the proper temps because I live in an area where temps fluctuate a bit. I now consider it money down the tubes b/c I will never have a use for it again; except for maybe an emergency situation.
You get what you pay for; yes all thermostats have the possiblity of failing but do you want to increase that possiblity with a low quality product?
Re: Ranco/Johnson vs. Zoo Med vs. Herpstat? Need your imput!
I just got my herpstat and that thing is incredible. Makes me so much less paranoid and I'm no longer checking temps 117 times a day and adjusting a rheostat.

I got the herpstat and herpstat 2 both work very good. :sabduel:
Re: Ranco/Johnson vs. Zoo Med vs. Herpstat? Need your imput!
I have Helix's and Herpstat II's and they both do their job very well. I won't take a chance with my snakes on any other brands. :gj:

I'm getting the basic Herpstat.
Thank so much for your input, trust me it's so appreciated.
Right now my UTH is on a light dimmer, and I'm constantly checking temps. The actual temp of the UTH is around 97.2 F right now, and it's not touching the plastic of the tub.
My infrared therm is sched to be in tomorrow, so that'll help.
Thanks again!
