Hey thanks everyone! :) Yea, I just figured it was worth a shot! :D No complaints here, I'm just happy they are all fat, and new, and cute, and not quite sure what they're doing here! :P LOL!

    Cute babies!

Too bad the male didn't prove out, but I wouldn't give up on him yet. Breeding het to het only gives you a 25% chance per egg of hatching a visible morph. So you should have expected 1 or 2 hypos out of this clutch if he is het. Getting zero out of 7 eggs, even with 2 proven hets, would of course be a disappointment, but it wouldn't be highly unlikely. If my BF's math is correct (we're pretty sure it is, but neither of us are statistics experts), it should happen 13.3% of the time. Getting 7 morph babies, which would happen only 0.006% of the time, is highly unlikely! That's roughly 1 out of 17,000!

In contrast, 13.3% is roughly 1 out of 7 or 1 out of 8. It is very close to 2 out of 15. You could look at it this way. Pretend you have 2 bags of marbles (this represents him being 50% het). In one bag you have 15 marbles, 2 of which are plain, 13 of which are gold-coated (this represents 15 7 egg clutches het x het, in which 13 of those clutches should have at least 1 morph, but 2 of them should be all normals in appearance). One the other bag, you have 15 marbles, all of which are plain (this represents 15 clutches het x non-het, which would give only normal appearing snakes every time). Randomly, you pick a bag. Then you pick out a marble. It is a plain marble. Are you going to throw the bag away assuming it is the bag of all plain marbles? Or are you gonna pull out another marble (try to prove him again next year)?

The only catch is that if you do try again next year, another clutch of 7 eggs could still come out all normal even if he is a het. My marble example makes it seem like if he doesn't prove out next year, he definitely isn't het, but that isn't true, so the marble example only works for this year (unless I change it so much it is just as complex as the original math, which would defeat the point). It would be pretty unlikely at that point though (assuming another 7 egg clutch that hatch out all appearing normal, because het x het to hatch out 14 visible normals would only happen 1.8% of the time).
