Well, for someone with tastes and understanding of functions like myself, I'd recommend a Canon 5D, 40D, or 1Ds Mark III.

For a beginner photographer, I'd recommend the Canon Digital Rebel XT, XTi, or XSi.

I haven't shot with Nikon in a year or more, so I really couldn't make any suggestions in that field. As I said, use what is most comfortable for you; don't get too caught up in what others are using, or whats the "latest and greatest".

Would you say this package is worth the deal or better off just getting the camera and a different lense? In your post it said the bundle deals come with crap lenses and the reviews on this lense wasnt so great... Any ideas?

That lens is ok, as far as a standard field lens. It doesn't do much for studio photography, because it hunts really bad in low light when trying to focus. The focal length is a little long too. Honestly, you could get a Canon 400D/Xti body for $500 new, and then that lens for around $160-$180 new. Total is $680 or so shipped. Then you can get a Sigma messenger bag for D-SLR's for around $22 shipped. It'll hold 3 lenses, and the camera with a lens on it, plus some other accessories..... Just shop around first ;)

Here are some shots I took with that lens...

Ah! One thing I missed putting in, somehow...

The Sigma 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro does extend inward and outward, almost as if it is zooming, when focusing. This is something to keep in mind when debating upon buying this lens. Especially if your looking into it for insect/invertebrate photography in the field.

    Thanks all :)

i have to say i prefer nikon to canon just be cause i absolutely love my nikon d40x its the best and easiest to use camera i have ever own. but if you are willing to spend a little bit more then go for the d60 its just a boost in some of the features.
