Re: Will corn snakes grow out of being so snappy?
I doesn't hurt if you get bit. Though I'm allergic to their saliva (or something in their mouth) and I get a lot of redness and swelling around the bite area, which hurts more than the actual bite...

I see this recommended a lot and it just makes sense based on my experience with other animals, although I can't say I personally know it to be true with snakes:

If your snake bites or musks, keep handling it for at least a few more minutes. If it gets returned to its enclosure immediately after acting out, you are basically rewarding the bad behavior.

What I have seen is that even if a handling session starts out on a bad note, the snakes do tend to get calmer after a few minutes of handling.

I've had my corn for over ten years and she never was nippy. I've had her since she was real small. I go by the idealogy that reptile don't want to be handled often, so I only handle them rarely. My animals have gotten used to my hands in the tanks cleaning or refilling the water dishes and don't do more than check them out. They barely reacte when I take them out, although they wiggle a bit when I return them.

Well the corn on the last handeling was so chill. Actually my wife who dislikes snakes asked to hold her.. Now my wife is in love with Kandi corn:D I had a lil problem with my son's king but after picking him up he was so cool and went all exploring through my beard and up my face...
Makes me want a king.. The pet store has a lavender cali king but at 139.00 I think they are high on junk!!!:O
He is good size and great markings but I can tell never been handled he musked me something fierce but then chilled.. Was a cool snake and I feel sorry for it cause it is in a damp cage the Aspen is all moist and he has been there about a 6 plus months.. Poor guy.
