    Unfortunantly my ball rarly excepts any other prey items(got her to eat a mouse last week for the first time in forever). And i've found gerbils are much more reluctant to bite and their odor is less threatening than rats. But they are fast! So I hold them untill my snake gets a hold on it. People tell me they're aggressive, but my experiance with rats has been much more stressful.
