Most people draw that line at around 6FT. You may look into a female blood as well. A cb blood can be well tempered and gets to an impressive girth, but tops out at about 5-6 ft.

would a red tail boa fit the bill? I am currently researching them and they appeal to me because I have read they are a larger snake that doesn't get so big one needs help handling and that they are outgoing? maybe people who have them could give some more detail.

lol...in that case, an adult burm or retic probably isn't what you're looking for.

I've been told roughly one person for every 5 ft of snake. I suppose it would depend on the species though. I mean, a 9 ft RTB is significantly stronger than a 9 ft Burm IMO as far as raw power goes. [Not saying a big burm isn't a handful though]

All that said, perhaps a python from the Morelia genus, a Dumeril's boa, or one of the smaller B.c. localities, would be a good choice for you.

they say any snake over i wanna say 8 feet (someone correct me on that if im wrong) you should not handle alone.

With a good CB blood or short tail python, you can get the big snake feel without having to go to the giants or to boas. It's all on your personal preference.

I would pick a berm over a retic. Red-tails get pretty big too, the might be worth exploring.

Like with most animals the more you handle them the more docile they'll be a.k.a. they'll be use to you fussin' with them and touching them.

What ever you pick post pix to see your new baby!

Thanks so much. This gives me a starting point. I have avoided the RTB's because of BID. But perhaps I should have another look at them too.

I love our Burms. We have three, one of which is 15 feet long and WELL over 125 pounds....although he's as tame as a kitten I would NEVER handle him alone...out other two are 11 and 12 feet...even at this length, I wouldn't handle them unspotted.

Remember that they can grow to outweigh a human and could easily crush an adult to death...

Although I love my Burms...not being able to handle them unaccompanied does get a little frustrating....not like "the good ole' days" when I would let them roam around the livingroom....btw, Burms can and WILL get stuck in a brand new recliner couch  ...now THERE was a waste of good seating...:D

    Keep us posted!!

I would have to go with the RTB because it has the size you are looking for but from my experience they were all very docile. The only downside stated above was there raw power.
