Releasing him may be a little sad - but it'll also be a heck of a high!

Yes, I will be heartbroken to a certain extent. I am really falling in love with him. I got him out this afternoon and he didn't tongue flick until I let him explore a little outside of my lap. I picked him up again and offered to let him down onto the floor after a few minutes, but he climbed up me, preferring the safety of "mama." I was touched. We are bonding. But I know he will be much happier outside. And I'll look for him almost everyday, hoping to get a glimpse of the happy and healthy boy I've gotten to have the pleasure of helping. It's an honor and a high.
I also decided I need to get a colubrid for my next snake! With two pythons and two boas, things won't feel right around here when Lefty is released!

Yes, I am thrilled! His progress makes me feel so relieved. The worst is over. Maybe he would have been fine on his own, but hopefully, I helped him heal a little faster with the warmer temps and the wound treatment I provided. AND I got to handle him! Ha ha. He ROCKS!
I can't wait for him to shed so I can offer him a nice warm meal! :D

The wonderful thing is Melissa that not only have you helped the snake heal up and will help him make his way back to the wild, you're going to be able to take the knowledge gained and give another colubrid a good, caring home. That's one of the best parts of rescue/rehab - that you can take what one snake taught you and help another down the road. Good for you! :)

Thank you. And, yes, it's been a learning and wonderful experience. And those baby corns at the pet store looked super cute yesterday! I can't wait for the next reptile show I go to! I might have to bring something home. Maybe by then things will be settled down with the rest of our crew.
Re: Update - Black Rat Snake Rehab
He drank a lot both last night and the night before when presented with a fresh bowl of water. He shed last night and pooped once I cleaned his tub this morning. I will update with pictures and more details in a new thread shortly!

Looking forward to see him in his new skin!
