I'm nearly 49 years old and so I grew up without computers and email and where thank you notes at Christmas and on birthdays needed to be written to all of my relations. Also, all school notes were handwritten as well as all school term papers, reports, etc. Lots of practice with writing equals the ability to handwrite legibly and well.
When my kids were little, I also had them handwrite letters etc. But more and more the computer and emails and word.doc's and spell check intervened and it is difficult for me to be certain what some of my kids write!! Good grief!! :O
Oh well, times change and the sign of a living culture is seen through the changes it makes; guess good handwriting is not necessarily en vogue right now!! :)

I've seen chicken scratch better than mine. You know it's bad when a five year old makes fun of it:rolleyes:

My handwriting gets worse and worse as I get older. It used to be very neat and tidy. Now my brain wants to write faster than my hand can keep up (I'm used to typing pretty fast, I guess).

Both my older children have atrocious handwriting, and my youngest (in Kinder) looks to be following in their footsteps. I found out that they don't even try to teach any sort of penmanship in schools now, because so much of what kids are growing up into is keyboarding (it's not even called "typing" anymore!) so they don't "have to know" how to write legibly.

Same thing with spelling...which I was quite horrified to find out. More and more schools are getting away from enforcing any sort of correct spelling or even teaching spelling because "everything" has "spell check" in it now. How utterly wrong is that???

I'm like you connie. I write in all capitals. I can't write in lowercase at all.

My handwriting looks like chicken scratch. I have a hard time signing mynamein cursive on stuff. Like checks for example.

I can sign my first name no problem. But my last name is so frustrating. And it starts off with an S and then looks like scribbles.

    Uhg, what next?

"Oh, we don't need to teach them that, they can just google it!"

My spelling is usually pretty good, but i think that's because I read a LOT.

It depends on how much of a hurry I am in or not. At the store, signing my credit-card slip.. it looks a mess. If I am writing a thought-out card to someone, I will deliberately neaten my writing.
