Don't lose sight of it! If you saw it go under a chair, chances are it is still there unless you have holes in your floorboards. Block off the room it's in with something high enough for it not to be able to jump over (I used a big dry-erase board once.) Then just have at it with some thick gloves. Any hesitation when grabbing for it will only lead to it getting away.
I have always caught escapees within minutes of getting out. It took some FAST acting on my part in our Very cluttered laundry room. I never used gloves, but ASFs bother me in their potential overaggressiveness..
