It's so hard to say what happened, Justin. If I remember these were pet store rats, correct? You just never know how stable they are really as far as health and genetics and issues of random inbreeding from the supplier. Back when I used to get a lot of our rats from the pet stores I would lose some like that...just whammo dead rat type of thing. Now that I rarely do that, either raising our own future breeders or buying from other rat breeders I don't lose many. You still see the occasional one just die for no apparent reason but overall it's a rarity.

So sorry you lost your male like that. If I was closer I'd happily give you a pick from my colony as I always have loads of healthy young males. If you can find a BPNet member close to you with their own rat colony or a reptile show where a good rat breeder vends at, that would likely be your best bet for better breeding stock rats.

Yes they are petstore rats. I was gunna buy my rats from Diana and Laura. May have to talk to them again. There will be another show in april, so I will check there then too, but I am sure I will get another male by then. I owuld like to get some rex and dumbo mix.
