Yeah, just like everything there are a zillion ways to do it.

I never actually had dreads, but when I was in Scouts, I had not-quite shoulder length hair, and kept it all shoved up under a hat for 2 weeks w/o washing it (Ohio summers are hot and humid). It was getting close to grungy enough to stay twisted up.

I was worried that my stuff wouldnt come in today and I was going to have to wait another weekend to do. UPS and FedEx came to my work and no package. Couple hours later USPS comes by and drops it off YES!!!
I got the pre dreading and de-waxing soap, dread wax, dread shampoo bar, metal lice comb(for backcombing), and some beads to put in(which I probably wont) all from Knotty Boy. So hopefully we get to do it on Sunday otherwise I have to wait til next weekend. Im so excited to start em.

BTW my hair is a little past my chin. Dont think I ever mentioned it, its pretty thick and sorta curly so hopefully all goes well.

You might want to get someone to do it for you, I know how strenuous it is just straightening my hair for a half an hour (it's pretty long too, in the small of my back), I dont even want to imagine moving your arms repeatedly over your head. Either way, have fun and good luck!

My gf and her friend who is going to school to be a hair stylist are doing it for me. At least most of it. I just talked to her and we have pretty conflicting schedules so its going to be done at 2 different times during the weekend

No, they don't!! But they also don't use shampoos with all of the chemical ingredients in them.

Your gonna a great time!! Just think about whether you want skinny dreads or whether you want fatty dreads... I have a feeling that since your hair and thicker and wavy that fatty dreads might look better.... :D

Rastafarian's wash their hair with just water. The process of letting the dread's grown and form naturally is the spiritual journey that is important.

I hate when something like this is made to be "main stream" witch in my opinion is blasphemy of another's beliefs.
