Re: Check out this gift!!
Kids do things like this at such early ages because they see it on TV and everywhere else. And because Valentine's Day is so heavily commercialized.
Just because we know why they do it doesn't mean it is a good idea.
This isn't like taking a little extra care with the card that you fill out for the person you have a crush on. It is an expensive gift that required quite a lot of planning. And almost certainly help from the boy's parents (what were they thinking?). That is too much at that age.
I do think it requires a thank you note. But I'd also look into the situation. I might start with the teacher. Maybe the boy's family just over did things and got a towel for everyone in the class, who knows? If it was an individual thing directed only at your daughter, what else is going on with those 2? Hopefully the teacher pays enough attention to have some idea.
Then, once you have an idea of what is going on, I'd decide if approaching the boy's parents is appropriate or not. If they didn't help the boy obtain the beach towel, they may be as alarmed as you. Or maybe Dad helped, but Mom would be concerned. And if they don't see your concern, then that is a big red flag...
My daughter is in 5th grade, and so far I've seen nothing like this, so it isn't like it is going on with all the kids these days....
Re: Check out this gift!!
Yea, I'd be a little weirded out...I mean on one hand it's cute, but on the other...second grade? I mean shouldn't he have given her a flower he picked on the playground or something?
Re: Check out this gift!!
i cant believe his parents allowed (and prolly paid for) that! it is very cute and sweet though!
Re: Check out this gift!! UPDATE!!!!!!!!
I did some questioning this morning at school...apparently, the little boy's mother is a teacher up there, but works in a different wing of the school.
She took a liking to my little one, and said the gift was from HER, it just came through her son. After extensive questioning, my daughter said that she and the little boy were not "that kind" of friends, but "regular" friends, like her and Krystal...
For some reason, I feel SOOOOOO much better!!! All this hoopla for nothing!!! Don't think I'm not going to keep my eyes open, though. I feel downright silly for overanalyzing.
