I'm planning on talking to the humane society and the owner of the store on monday and we'll see about some other places. I'm going to do what I can to make sure this place is at least shut down for a little bit while they're being investigated for neglect and who knows what other types of animal cruelty

Sry I call shenanigans on this I've been in the hobby for over five years and an animal warden over 12 years and have delt with many vets over the years and HAVE NEVER HEARD of feeding a snake liquids.

Well what was I supposed to do if it wasn't going to move enough to get any other type of food down it's throat? I gave it egg yolks and water that way

Many people use egg yolk....it's mostly used to lubricate during a force fed rodent

Personally I have never had to force feed and would not try...but I have read that in many cases it has been used very sucessfully :)

    Lighten up!

If the snake had ticks, and was too weak to hold on, in the short time he had the snake in his possession, he probably wasn't the root cause of death.

Sooooooooo sorry to hear that your new pet died!! :(

There are quite a few threads here about feeding a liquid diet to a very weak snake. And quite a few of them are now very robust, thriving pets. It needed nutrition, and being too weak to hunt, even assist-feeding probably would have been too much stress on the poor creature.

Unfortunately, the snake was too far downhill to recover. Kudos to him for taking it to the vet and TRYING to get it into recovery.

Personally? I'd be taking the snake, the vet bill/diagnosis BACK to the store and asking for (first, and if that doesn't work...demanding) a refund and reimbursement for the vet bill.

Good luck!!! Pls keep us posted on what you decide to do, and how things turn out.

Ummm, it wasn't my pet (not my post)...I didn't kill anything :P
Please try to be civil. That person came here for help, not you be judged by a one man jury.
If the snake had ticks, it was more than likely wild caught and had other health issues which would have contributed to it's demise....certainly not a little egg yolk. :)

I've actually seen this recommended in veterinary manuals, so your statement is a bit harsh.

I've often force fed liquids or liquids mixed with meat baby foods to a snake that was dehydrated and not able to eat on it's own.
