That's awesome. Once we own a farm, much to my hubby's chagrin, I want a few beefers. Of course he hates cattle (thinks that their poop is yucky and liquidy) but they actually do good at keeping a large pasture frm becoming overgrown (though they can trash a smaller one!) But there is nothing on earth like homegrown, well-fed beef. I have to settle on buying it from a friend of ours for now..

    Fresh everything is great!

My favorite breed is the Santa Gertrudis, 5/8s shorthorn 3/8 brahman. Superb cattle! Since you live up north, you dont have to worry about the breed of ccattle you get, because they don't need to be heat tolarant, like they do down here, so brahman crosses arnt needed. If I was up north though, i would invest into some Maine-Anjous! maines are awesome cattle to have. But the Gerts win over all as of right know! Herefords are great pasture animals aswell. Something to consider aswell, is that there is no "good" breed of cattle. Crosses are the best meat producers.

Make sure you know what kind of meat you want! Lean, prime, choice, etc. There is SO much that goes into buying a herd of cattle for breeding or market. Good luck when you do!

Id get some hogs, and some chickens too!

We actually got some awesome meat off of a jersey steer that our friend raised. My other friend breeds herefords. She has a bull that scares the heck outta me!
I have 2.1 chickens now. The hen lays eggs but lately they've been frozen to the ground before we can grab them and bring them into the fridge.
