I use an organic wild bird seed mix, along with oatmeal, split peas, low protein dog food, whole wheat pasta bits, lab blocks and for treats I give them an occassional piece of cheese. they seem to like it and I do not notice any wastage when i clean house. Nothing hidden in the substrate.
