If you read Jeff's post he first starts off trying to insult me, great start. Then next comments that in some way I think my way is "better" or the best way where nothing like that was even mentioned. Next substrates have been known to kill snakes of all kinds that does not mean it is going to happen but it can and no where in my post does it say its a "done deal" and look forward to it happening. Lastly anyone that has not been bitten by a snake has not been keeping them for very long. Ask any large breeder and they will tell you that people that are bitten are normally bitten during feeding times. Again that does not mean that it will happen and no where in my post does it say that it is "going to happen". In that same breathe why would you turn your tank into a feeding area buy spraying it with a rodent scent is beyond me. That is usually used for animals that will not eat or on pre-killed/frozen thawed prey. Your ball should have a normal feeding response with out having to be enticed by spraying the inside of the cage. But with that being said that is left to the thread poster to decided what he or she wants to do. No one is right or wrong here so no one should critique one another suggestions unless a person is putting some ones animal in mortal danger and if that is the case that is left to the Admin of these forums to decide whether it needs to be pulled or not.

My points were you clearly thought your ways of doing things were correct and the best way. They were kind of correct but for all the wrong reasons.

You attribute your snakes never missing a meal, because you feed them in a seperate tub.. False Cause Fallacy. With shy feeders, feeding outside the tub is very hard to do. Either method is ok, but the snake mistaking your hand for food is completely untrue.

Scenting is done by many big breeders as well. I place bedding in the cage, "not spray it with rodent scent", big breeders bring a tub of rats and let it sit in the rack room, same stuff. But my snakes are obiously don't have normal feeding response because I pre-scent. . False Cause Fallacy.

I'm not critquing your ways, I'm making sure you provide correct information.

according to YOU this information is that only information that is correct or you would not critique what I do. There you go again saying that "You clearly think your way is the right way" Did I say that Jeff? No I did not, just to clarify, and maybe you want to READ my post before you get into your little tangents. Really you may want to take what the MODERATOR said into account and post your suggestions with out leaving your professional opinion about how others do things. May I ask, what would you think of some one that left prey in the cage with animal unattended maybe even over night?

you feeed how ever your comfortable with i feed my snakes in there tanks i dont move them i dont see the need to stress them out during feeding which can lead to regurgitation which no one has pointed out which is why i feed in the tank the snake lives in ive had it happen once and refuse to go though that stress and mess again. do how ever your comfortable.

and i seen something about whered you get your info petco. excuse me but i work at a petco not all petcos give wrong information. infact i have people coming in my store from other petstores to ask me questions about animals and im talking managers from other petstores. i want to get into ball python breeding so why of all people would i give wrong info. i give the facts and then it all works itself in as the handler gains experience with their individual snake.

anyway that being said good luck and do what your comfortable with i got work gotta get to petco.

    see ya'lll later

Sorry to have caused a little trouble here :) I appreciate everyones info and suggestions that have been posted. I'm sure that feeding is pretty much trial and error and at least i have a few of your ideas in my mind now so i can find the method that works best for me and Kafari.

I am now also alot more aware of some of the possible precautions. Being very new to all of this and this quite literally being my first ever feeding of any snake i am just happy that everyone on this site is able to share info with me

I also have no idea who Petco are i'm afraid :)

    Wish me luck!

It really is by trial and error and you will learn as you go. I certainly have. Good luck with your first feeding.

What works for my bp, I put the mouse in a container, & let it sit under the heat lamp, warm it up. then I put George-bp in the container, close it. I leave the container in his home under the heat lamp. The container has holes in the lid. He always eats it within a few seconds. I wait about 10 min, then let him out back into his home. :snake:
